Window Stickers Found To Exaggerate Auto Fuel Economy
YONKERS, N.Y. --
If you're shopping for a more fuel-efficient vehicle because of
soaring gas prices, watch out.
Consumer Reports has found that new-car window stickers vastly
overstate vehicle fuel economy ratings.
According to the magazine, fuel-economy tests that it conducted show
the government figures posted on the new-car window stickers are
inflated by as much as 50 percent.
The investigation is published in the October issue of Consumer
Reports.
Among the worst offenders, according to the independent testing by the
consumer organization, are hybrid cars and the diesel version of a
small SUV.
They were found to cost hundreds of dollars more in fuel per year than
consumers have been led to believe.
